Crutch Side Table

Crutch Table started as roof decking, still covered with its asphaltic membrane. I thought the 5/4″ thick material was fir until I scraped through the sticky, black mess to find knotty pine. The piece was supposed to be a companion to the stout Station Benches that I had just finished, but the species change sparked an idea that directed me towards this more delicate construction. The well worn material and dark stain and wax finish paired with its contemporary form, leave you wondering what era this piece came from.
