pedestal table

This project started with the texture of the circular sawn, salvaged douglas fir top.  A digging mission for another project yielded the rusted angle iron that inspired the pedestal post.  The clean bolt detail and resurfaced fir post inserts add a bit of polish to finish it off.

Crutch Side Table

May 16, 2010

Crutch Table started as roof decking, still covered with its asphaltic membrane.  I thought the 5/4″ thick material was fir until I scraped through the sticky, black mess to find knotty pine.  The piece was supposed to be a companion to the stout Station Benches that I had just finished, but the species change sparked an idea that directed me towards this more delicate construction.  The well worn material and dark stain and wax finish paired with its contemporary form, leave you wondering what era this piece came from.
