Joist Table and Benches

November 6, 2010

Reclaimed floor joists become a new farm table with complementary benches.  The benches’ smooth finish against the medium coarse finish of the table illustrates the color difference achieved by using different resurfacing techniques on the same material.  I threw in a few high-back chairs from my personal collection to fill all eight place settings for the first photo.  Let’s eat!

Bernal Tables

October 29, 2010

A simple path from flat to three dimensional, the Bernal design turns the most modest materials into handsome, low profile structures that can be sized to be anything from end tables to banquet tables. As you can see, a lot can be done with the finishes too.

A Frame Table

August 31, 2010

This table top is made of two reclaimed floor joists that must have weathered together for years to become uniformly checked along their faces.  The clear finish showcases this weathering while providing nice protective coat for easy cleanup.  At counter-height (36″) the A Frame Table adds a little extra work area off the kitchen while providing casual dining space for four.

Span Coffee Table

July 24, 2010

This is probably my first successful design. I hacked it together in my back yard in San Francisco with just a skill saw seven years ago.  All the components were salvaged off job sites of my construction job at the time.

The rectangular legs are douglas fir.  The connective tissue is cherry.  Lindseed oil and wax finish.
